A2 Music Summer Homework

2011 August 10
by Benjamin Jose

Please remember that there are two aspects to your A2 Summer Homework; Composition (Unit 5) and Performance (Unit 4).

Composition: During the summer break you have been asked to produce a short composition which uses the new skills you have developed as a composer during term 6.  Aim to develop and push your boundaries as a composer.
Work to a brief.  This could be broad or specific, it could change and develop, but try and work to one.

Use the new knowledge you have gained since starting the A2 course and refer to your notes for influence, inspiration or ideas.
Duration – maximum of 4 minutes.

In September I would like: A score and a recording & any additional notes

Any problems email Mr Jose – benjose@thegrangeschool.net.

Performance: This is a separate project aimed to develop your performance awareness, not linked to your recital!
Learn what you can.  There is absolutely no pressure.  You have been given a piece to learn, plus a score and a recording.  If for any reason you need another copy then let me know.

In September I would like:

Your performance
200 of your own words research on your piece.

Remember to set a realistic goal and consider as many aspects of performance practice as you can.

There will be no listening test to do over the summer - we will look at that together in September.

The first lesson back @ The Grange will be Monday 12th September.

Any problems please let me know.  Have a great holiday!

Music for the Summer Concert (Another Day Dawns)

2010 July 1
by Ben England

Another Day Dawns accomp

Another Day Dawns baritone 2 – this part is for the soprano line (top), and bass (bottom)

Another Day Dawns alto – alto part.  Imagine up one octave!

Listen to your part, and then sing along with the backing track!  Sorry I can’t sing the soprano and alto parts at pitch (I would need much tighter trousers), so imagine it up an octave.  Let me know if you need any help with this!

The score is accessible here: Another Day Dawns – vocal parts
