Useful Search Engines and Wikipedia warning!

2010 January 30
by Lynette Skuse

The exam board does not really  like you using wikipedia because of its unreliability.

If you do use it show you understand this. It is a good place to start as it will often give you links to other useful websites.

The following search engines have been suggested for use by the exam board:

Google Books  http://books.google.com/

The British Library http://www.bl.uk

Intute  http:www.intute.ac.uk/

MIT Libraries  http://dome.mit.edu/

ArchNet  http://archnet.org/lobby/

Flickr  http://www.flickr.com/commons

Library of Congress http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/index.html

Bubl.ac.uk – new good search engine

If possible use other websites like google scholar scholar.google.co.uk

Referencing

2010 January 30
by Lynette Skuse

Your project needs to be referenced correctly. You will not achieve high marks if you do not do this. The recommended system is one used by Universities and is called Harvard referencing.

Ask your project supervisor if you are doing it correctly.
